ACE Inbound Exchange student 2023 Fall

Home University: Peking University

The semester at Rikkyo University is a wonderful experience to study with multicultural background classmates and experience Japanese culture in a profound way.

I took three courses from the C6ubic Curriculum, which are “Principles of Sociology,” Literature and Society” and “Social Movements and Social Change.” The courses are well organized by teachers with critical perspectives of the topic and involve multiple teaching methods such as creative role-playing, group discussion, and presentations. Students in the class also have multicultural backgrounds, which makes the idea exchange from different perspectives a precious way to broaden one's horizons. With the help of teachers' tender instructions and classmates' generous help, not only did I gain more knowledge in the fields of history, literature, and sociology, but I also improved my research skills during the process of doing research for the course.

What's more, living in Tokyo is a really exciting experience. The metropolis concentrates on all kinds of cultural activities such as museum exhibitions, manga and anime activities, and other events. The commercial centers of Tokyo like Ginza, Shibuya, and Shinjuku are also collections of cuisines not only from Japan but also from all over the world. Thanks to the caring arrangement of the student dormitory, I didn't need to worry about my housing and my meal plan and was able to fully explore the charm of the city. The dormitory also provided me with a platform for interacting with other international students, where I formed precious memories and friendships.

I also took advantage of fall and winter breaks to travel around in Japan. The tranquil temples in Kyoto, the glowing snows in Hokkaido and the hospitable people in Fukuoka all left me deep impressions. Japan is a country with diverse sceneries and landscapes, from snowy mountains to tropical islands, from vast cosmopolitan to serene countryside, which really enchanted me.
